If you’re seeking out quality tone and playability, you reach for a Taylor guitar. Since its beginnings, the company that started with acoustics has since branched out into electric models and advanced pickup technology.
Taylor Guitars started as a guitar-making shop in El Cajon, California, going by the name American Dream. Bob Taylor came on board in 1972, and within a couple of years, the business was sold to Taylor, Steve Schemmer, and Kurt Listug, who re-named it Westland Music Company. Beyond a name change, the three co-owners opted to craft their own style of guitars. After a few years, the name of Westland Music Company was shortened to Taylor Guitars. As business progressed, Listug focused more on expansion, while Taylor became the brains behind its innovation. Specifically, by the 1980s, Taylor sought to blend classic craftsmanship with current manufacturing practices to streamline guitar production. Beyond this big-picture objective, multiple advances have placed Taylor guitars above the competition:
The patented Taylor Neck adds more support to the fretboard to mitigate humidity-related warping. Each guitar features a single piece of wood supporting the ebony fretboard up to the 19 th fret; on a traditional guitar, this degree of support extends up to the 14th fret, increasing the risk the neck will bend and break off toward the top. The T5 acoustic-electric hybrid guitar blended these two designs to stand out in a solid-body market. A hollow-body guitar, the T5 provides players with a greater degree of versatility through Taylor’s proprietary pickup, tone control, and compatibility with electric and acoustic amplifiers. The Expression System® pickup emerged in 2004. This all-magnetic pickup for acoustic guitars projects sound like a microphone, preserving the guitar’s natural warmth and offering volume, bass and treble controls.
Whether you prefer a Taylor acoustic or hollow body or want to experience its tone for yourself, Alamo Music Center is one of the nation’s top Taylor Guitar dealers. Explore our vast selection to see what works for your skill level and sound, and we’ll help you out with multiple financing and layaway options, including 12- to 48-month no-interest financing at times.
