The School of Jazz

Jazz School, the first of it's kind in San Antonio!  The academy is open to students of all ages and abilities who have at least one year of musical experience

on their instruments. The academy is a seven-week course consisting of 6 rehearsals/masterclasses, culminating in a jazz recital on Saturday, November 17th. The rehearsals and masterclasses will be under the direction of Alamo Music Center's qualified instructors, and will cover various topics.

The School of Jazz is a 7 week course for $250

In this course you get

•  6 weeks of music instruction with a public concert concluding the 7th  week
•  13 1/2 hours of class time 
• Jazz theory handbook and study materials
• All sheet music for the entire course and concert
• Personal instruction from our finest teachers with years of playing experience.
• Jazz experience that will prepare you for anything! 

Topics include:

• History of jazz and jazz musicians
• Choosing the right instruments and equipment for jazz playing

• Jazz phrasing, rhythm, and articulation

• How to create and play a jazz solo

• How to read jazz music

• Scales and chords used in creating a jazz solo
• How to play different jazz styles, from 12-bar blues to bebop to smooth jazz.
