However, caution should be taken when dealing with an instrument of that age. So many unknown factors may have affected its condition- especially when it has sat unmaintained in a poor environment - a basement, a garage or an unheated home or church. Starting with a new, large upright, or used one in top condition, and keeping it properly maintained, will allow it to perform well for many decades to come.
