Unique and striking! That is the best way to describe both the appearance and sound of this Custom Taylor Gold Label Super Auditorium guitar. The top is a rare book matched piece of sinker cypress wood paired with stunning figured Myrtlewood back and sides.
Sinker Cypress is from a recovered submerged tree of Bald Cypress that is that is hundreds to thousands of years old. The period of submersion is marked with unusual lines and coloring on the top that comes from the many decades under water and exposure to the unique mineral content of the river or lakebed silt where it was found, preserving the wood from rot. Cypress offers a familiar and at the same time new tonal option. It has the volume and rich bass response that one expects from Adirondack spruce while being more touch sensitive.
The figured Myrtlewood back and sides recall the best figured maple with more coloration in appearance and tone. Offering a lovely rich bass with a nice midrange it pairs well with the Sinker Cypress top.
The guitar is elegantly appointed to allow the woods themselves to shine. A figured ebony bridge with bone pins is joined by an ebony fingerboard with small dot inlays. The Gold Label ebony headstock is classic and clean and the body is bound in a dark ebony to frame the contrasting colors of the top with the back and sides. An elegant single thick band of abalone shell serves as the rosette with ebony binding creating a clean and elegant finish to the sound hole.
Inside the guitar's sonic engine is the Gold Label Series' V-class fan bracing with relief rout - but done with Adirondack spruce rather than sitka to provide a bit more of a springy response to the top of the guitar. An L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickup is onboard.
