Are Guitars Getting More Expensive Or More Affordable?

Are guitars getting more affordable or more expensive. This is the root of an argument that takes place in music store, chat groups and comment sections all over the internet. Typically the argument comes down to what the two parties own. The guitar player with the high end USA made guitar will argue about the value of the instrument, the superior fit and finish and the history behind the company. The other party may own a guitar imported from another country, costing a fraction of what the USA made guitar costs with its own compelling features. Could both be right?! Yes, it is possible that both are correct. The argument is more nuanced than looking simply at price. Today we are going to take a look at guitar prices within a historical and modern perspective and compare it to other goods that we purchase in our lives in order to answer this question and hopefully settle the debate once and for all.
