About The Competition

The Playful Piano Competition is a friendly community competition meant to encourage young pianists of the San Antonio and Austin area to challenge their piano skills. This competition is targeted to students up to 18 years of age who like to play a wide-range of music: classical, jazz, improvisation, original compositions, pop and video game music! All genres are accepted! Students who enter will receive critique sheets from the three professional judges who will provide feedback about technique and style. Winners of each category will receive Cash Prizes! Join the competition and see what you are capable of this fall!

Start Your Registration

This competition invites young pianists, ages 18 and under, to share their talent while gaining valuable performance and competition experience in the San Antonio and Austin communities.

To register for the competition:
STEP ONE: Fill out the form with the contact information of a legal guardian. Complete payment of the non-refundable $35 registration fee below.

STEP TWO: Review the Video Submission Guide and submit your video audition. All submissions will be through youtube as an unlisted video.

STEP THREE: Once you have completed the sign-up form, paid the registration fee, and submitted your audition videos -- our judges will review the auditions of all contestants and make the finalist selections. If selected you will be notified by email October 28th 2025.

The finalist of the competition will perform LIVE at our Downtown San Antonio Store in the recital hall on Saturday, November 8th, 2025.

The Final Performance

Save the date! The finalist will perform Saturday November 8th, 2025 at 11 am. This performance is open to the public so bring your friends, family, neighbors, to support you! Parking is FREE in our reserved Alamo Music parking lot right out front.

Video Submission Requirements

Video submission will be taken through Youtube. These will be reviewed by our judges for the final selection of contestants. Last day to submit your videos is October 19th, 2025. CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO SUBMISSION GUIDE

Provide TWO Piano pieces to demonstrate your range as a pianist. Your piece decisions can be from any genre! Even original pieces. Please announce the name and composer of your selections at the beginning of the video as well as a short intro about yourself.
Memorization is not required
Angle the camera to show hands and face of performner.
Do not edit or cut video.
MAX length for video is 10 minutes

WINNER REWARDS

The winner and runner up of each category -- Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced-- will be awarded. The award list is as follows:

Beginner will be awarded a Cash Prize of $125. Runner up will earn an Alamo Music Center Gift Card for $75.
Intermediate will be awarded a Cash prize of $225. Runner up will receive an Alamo Music Gift Card for the amount of $150
Advanced will be awarded a Cash Prize of $400. Runner up will receive an Alamo Music Gift Card for the amount of $250
