Care and Maintenance of Your Piano - The dos and don't
Keeping Your Piano Clean
What kind of care is required?
- Keep the surface of your piano clean to protect its finish.
Finishes
- Regularly brush off surface dust using a piano feather duster or a soft microfiber cloth
- Before using piano wax or polish, check with the store where you purchased your piano, or a specialty piano store. Depending on your piano model, certain types or brands of wax and polish may not be suitable.
- Avoid using chemical wipes or harsh cleaning agents which are not designed for a piano. Their chemical compositions could ruin your piano's finish.
Keyboard
- Gently wipe down the keyboard using a soft cloth (use separate cloths to wipe down the keyboard and piano finishes).
- When your keyboard gets dirty, dampen a cloth in a diluted solution of a neutral detergent, wring out well, and use this cloth to wipe away the dirt.
- Avoid using any kind of alcohol such as rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol on the keyboard because it can cause cracking.
- Generally speaking, best practice is washing your hands before playing
