The New Martin CEO-9 | Full Review

The Martin CEO series of guitars have been around for a number of years and offer a unique combination of models, tonewoods and aesthetics that fall outside of the typical Martin catalog. Falling under the Custom Signature Series, the Martin CEO-9 is in essence a signature model for Martin CEO Chris Martin who strives to continue his families legacy of creating the best flattop acoustic guitars in the world. This new CEO-9 starts with a slope shoulder 00 body shape and a 14 fret neck. Typically the slope shoulder 00 is only available in a 12 fret model. For the tone woods Martin has made a unique selection of Curly Mango for the top, back and sides and finished it with a new finish called Mango Sunset Burst. The guitar is trimmed in antique white binding with a multi-colored edge purfling on the top and white corian style 42 snowflake inlay on the ebony fretboard. The strings are anchored in an ebony pyramid style bridge with drop-in saddle making adding an aftermarket pickup a cinch. The headstock features a unique tortoise shell headstock overlay with drop-dead gorgeous Schaller Grand Tune open gear tuners in Vintage Copper. The tone of the all-mango body is reminiscent of walnut, a beautiful marriage of the properties of maple's dry transparency with mahogany's mid-range warmth and compression.
