  1. Yamaha's Story: Yamaha started back in 1887 making reed organs. Originally watchmakers, they moved into making pianos in 1900. Mr Yamaha died in 1960 and the company continued to produce pianos as well as motorcycles and other leisure products.
  2. Manufacturing Size: Yamaha is the largest manufacturer of musical instruments in the world. 
  3. Product Categories: Yamaha invests a lot in R&D and is continually producing innovations in the piano market. Examples of this are their Disklavier, Transacoustic, Hybrid and Silent Piano lines. Also, the premium digital piano lines CVP, CSP CLP often are trailblazing the way forward for digital piano technology.
  4. Manufacturer Partnerships: From working with Kawai in the beginning and working with Pearl River in the mid 1990's, Yamaha has a history of working with other companies. Yamaha bought Bosendorfer in 2008 and is rumored to have incorporated many of the manufacturing techniques from Bosendorfer in its latest piano designs.
  5. The Used/Grey Market: Imported Yamaha pianos from Japan are now Yamaha pianos greatest competition. A bias against used products in Japan, led to a whole industry of exporting used pianos to the US. The quality, build and price of these used pianos is hard to pass over for many US piano customers. Sometimes called “gray market” pianos, there is a myth that these pianos don’t hold up well in the US climate - but the rebuttal to this myth is - which US climate? Central Arizona? Florida Coast? Colorado Mountains? Etc.
  6. Made in the USA: Yamaha Pianos produced for the U.S. market have been manufactured in US locations from the mid 1980's to the early 2000's. Thomaston, Georgia and South Haven, Michigan produced many pianos for the US market.
